DFDS and CLdN have agreed to extend their space charter agreement on the Zeebrugge-Gothenburg route for an additional five years, while increasing freight capacity. This will enable both companies to better serve customer demand and continue to develop the route and reduce the environmental impact.

DFDS and TT Line have entered into a space charter agreement on three ferry routes in the Baltic Sea. With the agreement, DFDS will increase the number of sailings offered between Klaipeda and Karlshamn, as well as bring new services to Trelleborg and Travemünde.

30,000 litres of clean drinking water is right now on its way on a DFDS Ferry to Ukraine to alleviate the immediate needs of civilians caught in the war.

By the end of 2023, part of the DFDS ships that dock in Vlaardingen will receive electricity via a shore power installation. Rotterdam Shore Power B.V, a joint venture of Eneco and the Port of Rotterdam Authority, will supply this shore power. For now, Jinling roll-on-roll-off vessels for scheduled service to and from Immingham will use the shore power installation. The installation will be constructed by Actemium and has been partially made financially possible by subsidies from the central government and the province of South Holland.

Today, 16 November 2022, DFDS deploys its first electric truck (e-truck) into the DFDS fleet and makes the company one step closer to operating a green corridor in one of Europe’s central logistic hubs.

On Tuesday, 18 October, it was confirmed that DFDS won a new five-year contract to operate the Newhaven-Dieppe route. Big congratulations to the team.

On 1. September, DFDS joins a new e-methanol partnership with Liquid Wind, Stena Line and Gothenburg Port. A partnership to significantly increase the production of e-methanol.

DFDS reported strong revenue growth of 67% due to passengers returning much faster than expected, alongside higher freight earnings. EBITDA increased 63% to DKK 1.46bn. Based on the strong performance, DFDS has upgraded its outlook for the full year.

A new passenger service between Ireland and France will launch from Friday 5th August on the company’s Rosslare-Dunkirk route.

Today, on 28 September, our fifth mega freight ferry, Flandria Seaways, arrived in Vlaardingen following a successful maiden voyage. Captain Joakim Dahlberg and crew finally stepped ashore on European ground after a very prolonged stay in China and received a special greeting and present from Torben Carlsen.

DFDS and Danish Crown signed a contract that extends our cooperation on transport of meat to the UK by 2.5 years.

Getting the house in order is the third track in our Climate Plan and deals with the 10% of our total emissions not derived from ships: facilities, terminal equipment, trucks in logistics, how our buildings consume energy and what vehicles we use all matter when we measure our impact. Reducing our carbon footprint requires everyone’s efforts.

The Frederikshavn – Oslo leg has proven to be a success for the Copenhagen – Frederikshavn – Oslo route. Teamwork and collaboration have created success for freight sales for the route.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the ships left Vlaardingen fully loaded. The many trailers caused delays on the roads leading to the terminal.

Work on the extension is expected to start around the end of the year. With an efficient new layout, a new gate system and many other improvements, bottlenecks will be removed and emissions reduced.

By 2050, DFDS will replace fossil fuel with the new generation of zero emission fuel. The long-term tonnage adaption plan is one of three tracks in our DFDS climate plan. It focuses on our new generation of ships, and the new infrastructure that it will require.

Even though things are tough right now, opportunities to grow and collaborate still arise all over DFDS. This time, a new cooperation between DFDS and the shipping company, Smyril Line, was a welcoming addition to the business in Vlaardingen.

Our ambitious plan to reduce climate gas emissions will help make us climate neutral by 2050. The short term goal is to reduce emissions by about 45% from 2008 to 2030 through continuous improvement.

COVID-19: As infection levels have decreased on Zealand, the Norwegian government has decided that the region should move from 'red' to 'yellow' status, i.e. travellers coming from the region can now enter Norway without having to be quarantined.

When DFDS resumes the Copenhagen – Oslo ferry operation on 25 June, the ferries will also service Frederikshavn – Oslo. There will be daily sailings on both routes.

Copenhagen Airports, A.P. Moller - Maersk, DSV Panalpina, DFDS, SAS and Ørsted have formed the first partnership of its kind to develop an industrial-scale production facility to produce sustainable fuels for road, maritime and air transport in the Copenhagen area. The partnership brings together the demand and supply side of sustainable fuels with a vision to realise what could become one of the world’s largest electrolyser and sustainable fuel production facilities. The project can spearhead the maturation of sustainable fuels while creating jobs and new value chains to reinforce Denmark’s role as a green energy leader.

Despite the Brexit uncertainty, DFDS has set the course towards a 4 % growth in revenues in 2020 driven by the initiatives introduced as part of the company’s Win23 strategy. Win23 will drive growth by focusing on initiatives in four strategic pillars.

On Tuesday 19 November, a critical situation occurred as a large group of 25 migrants were trying to get to the UK hidden in a refrigerated trailer on board Britannia Seaways enroute from Vlaardingen to Felixstowe.

The start-up company MASH Energy ApS produces bio-oil from agricultural waste. The CO2 neutral biofuel can be used in ships, and the residual product is an effective fertiliser. With its investment of up to DKK 10 million, DFDS is now co-owner of the company and co-responsible for developing a commercially viable alternative to fossil fuels. The plan is to work towards testing the fuel on a DFDS vessel.

On 7 March, DFDS’ largest ferry ever was named Ephesus Seaways at a naming ceremony in Istanbul and will soon set course for its first sailing to Trieste fully loaded with 450 trailers.

DFDS is preparing for future growth with the construction of six new mega ferries in China. The first one was delivered to DFDS on 31 January and will be entering into service between Turkey and the EU during March.

DFDS will in 2019 invest DKK 300m to install scrubbers on 12 freight ferries deployed on freight routes in the Mediterranean between Turkey, Italy, Greece and France. The investment will ensure compliance with the new global rules that from 2020 aims to reduce sulphur emissions through limiting sulphur content in marine fuel oil to 0.5% or through other means, such as scrubbers, with at least a similar environmental effect.
