Shipping and Logistics Group DFDS will acquire all shares in logistics company Shetland Transport. This is the result of an agreement signed today by EVP Eddie Green of the DFDS Group and Kathleen and Hamish Balfour, owners of Shetland Transport.
Shetland Transport is headquartered in Lerwick in Shetland, and with its fleet of 128 trailers and 28 tractors, primarily transports fresh fish under temperature controlled conditions from the Shetland and Orkney islands via Aberdeen to the mainland UK. Return loads are products for retail stores and almost anything required by the island communities. The company also operates a warehouse and a workshop in Lerwick as well as distribution centres in Aberdeen and Coatbridge.
"I welcome the 55 staff of Shetland Transport to DFDS, and I am confident that together we will be able to enhance the service of our many customers and be able to offer an even more complete service," says Eddie Green.
"I am also very pleased that Hamish Balfour has agreed to continue as Managing Director of Shetland Transport. No-one knows the needs of Shetland Transport’s customers better than he does," adds Eddie Green.
Shetland Transport will change its name to DFDS, and will be part of the DFDS Group’s Logis-tics Division, which offers logistics services throughout the UK, Ireland and the European Con-tinent. In Scotland, it offers transport and logistics services, including warehousing and distri-bution in Larkhall, Aberdeen, Bellshill, Fort William and Greenock.
The Group’s shipping services include freight and passenger routes to and from the UK (includ-ing Rosyth), in the Baltic Sea and in the Mediterranean.
